Tiro is one of the leading experts on the uninhabited northern glacier regions of Dezo and the creatures that dwell there. He sometimes finds it difficult to get along with his peers; his partly-Palman ancestry and upbringing has been markedly different from the strict and highly traditional culture other Dezorians belong to. Tiro is most comfortable when by himself or with no one other than his assistant robots, especially the Whistle "Betty," who he considers his best friend.
