Family Resemblance or Just Coincidence?

How and why Thea could be "nice" Kara's mother...

It always puzzled me that Ryan, a Layan, was so opposed to Lune's gallivanting across Alisa III. Lune was a legendary hero admired by all Layans. He served beside Laya herself! Why then should Ryan not only dislike Lune, but go so far as to organize an army against him?

While considering this question, I remembered that I never had figured out what exactly happened to Thea after Ryan rescued her. Did she marry Ryan? Did Ryan just take Thea under his wing and allow her to live at his home, presumably in Endora village? Or was her fate something else entirely?

The answer came to me some time later while looking through images of the characters from Phantasy Star III. I saw that the two versions of Lune's daughter Kara, one of whom joins the quest of Nial's son while the other is exclusive to the quest of Ayn's son, bear not even the slightest resemblance to one another. The only physical trait the two share is that they both have Lune's distinctive lime-colored hair. I surmised that the only possible explanation for this discrepancy was that the two Karas had different mothers. I brainstormed, trying to figure out if any of the second generation women would work as a possible mother for either Kara.

It was then that I noticed that there is a remarkable resemblance between the Kara of Nial's world and, of all people, Thea. Their facial structures, lips, eyes, hair textures, and even styles of dress are all uncannily similar. Could Thea really be the mother of this version of Kara?

The more I thought about it, the more it made sense. Imagine this possible scenario:

Ryan rescues Thea from Lensol and is instantly taken with her. The two are together for a time, and Ryan comes to have the Twins' Ruby that Thea was in possession of. Later, while Lune is causing havoc throughout Alisa III, he hears of a beautiful emerald-haired Layan princess, or perhaps he even sees Thea himself. Of course, Lune finds her absolutely enchanting and, being completely without scruples (as Lune undeniably was at this time), he kidnaps her and takes her back to his headquarters on the moon Dahlia, which can only be reached via the dome of Elysium. Ryan, heartbroken, outraged, or both, follows the pair to Elysium where he builds an army that he plans to use to attack Lune's base and take Thea back. His secret weapon will be "Laya's Treasure," which he hopes to procure in Aridia before Lune can. It is at this time that Ryan meets Nial, and they begin their adventures together.

Meanwhile, Thea and Lune become closer. After Lune is defeated by Ryan and Nial and regains his senses, he and Thea fall in love and marry. Eventually they have a daughter who Lune names Kara.

Hazel-Rah has written a short fanfic based upon this theory. It is called Mother of Selene and I highly reccommend it.

Thea of Shusoran and Kara of Dahlia.
Family resemblance? You decide.
